Time tracking that does not watch you

Search for time tracking software this year and the results are mostly monitoring software: screenshots every ten minutes, keystroke counts, activity scores, blurred captures offered as the privacy option. That is a different product wearing the same name.

What a timesheet is for

A timesheet answers one question: what did we do, for whom, and how long did it take. It exists so that a client can be invoiced fairly and a team can see where the week went. It is a record the person doing the work keeps, because they are the only one who knows what the hour was.

Monitoring answers a different question: is this person working right now. Teams that bill by the hour rarely need that answered by software. They need the hours to be right.

The line we draw

• No screenshots, no keystroke counts, no activity scores, no idle detection. There is nothing to turn off, because none of it exists.
• No AI features. Nothing summarizes your notes or guesses your hours.
• The timer is a stopwatch you start and stop. Entries are numbers you type. Managers see hours and amounts, never your screen.

What you give up

If you need proof that a contractor was at the keyboard, this is the wrong tool. Plenty of the results above will sell you that. We would rather be the timesheet a team keeps for ten years without resenting it.
